Hello,
Can anyone shed any light on the uses if this tool:

(the image is 45k)
It's located inside the petrol filler flap of my 1999 Vectra (Diesel), and is mounted in it's own little clip. There is also an almost identical tool in the same position of my parents 6 month old Corsa (Petrol).
Kind regards,
Cyrill

It's for removing the dust caps when you're checking tyre pressures. You don't get your fingers dirty.

Ahh.... mystery solved.
Thanks for that.

Cyrill, if that's a picture you took, the tool is clipped the wrong way up. In that position water can fill up the hole where you would place the dust cap. Just an observation.

Thanks for that. I'll reposition said tool in the morning. Although I don't think I'd ever use it (I'm not one to worry about getting a little muck on my fingers... I always carry a cloth in the boot for those 'late for a meeting / flat tyre' events), so it filling up with water wouldn't be the end of the world.

Correct. I remember Jezzer Clarkson pointing it out when he did his review of the Vectra. Comparing the Vectra to the Mondeo, he said that the Mondeo had pen holders in the centre console, the Vectra had the dust cap remover. It's about the only thing Jezzer ever did get right about the Vectra.

No, no, no.......that's not the dust cap remover.
There should be a strong coil spring that appears to be missing.
The idea is to fit it (tensioned) behind the fuel flap after filling up.
The next time you open it, the device shoots out into your left eye to remind you it's diesel.
I know these things.............
