I had a Kia C'eed 1.4 as a rental car for 2 weeks in Poland last year and It went perfectly well but didn't have alot of go for overtaking. I think the diesel one would have alot more oomph for A road type driving.

I agree that the Kia has a longer waranty but remember the last 2 years are limited to drivetrain only. Also the Kia 7 year is limited to 100,000 miles.

Hi
The Kia warranty is actually a full 7 years manufacture warranty 100,000.
From the Kia site
"Our high quality standards are what make superior warranty coverage possible: 3 years unlimited milage and 4-7 years / 100,000 mile full manufactures warranty.

Hi joshua,

I was going by the vehicle breakdown page for the Ceed on honestjohn.co.uk.
Maybe the waranty has been changed since that was written.

Yes, the warranty was upgraded to cover everything for 7 years a few months after the Ceed was introduced.
I have just taken the plunge and ordered a new Ceed today, i was surprised how busy the dealers was, probably lots of people like me who are fed up with the carp rate of interest the banks are paying us on our savings !

Thank you for all of your comments so far. Are there any backroomers out there that own either a C'eed or i30, preferably the 1.4 petrol or 1.6 diesel that could say what they are like to live with?
Thank you!

Hi llewis,
As I took delivery of my i30 (1.4 Comfort Hatch) on Saturday I can now give you first impressions:
Positive:
-Handling is excellent with a relatively firm ride.
-The 1.4 has plenty of power for normal use with two people. Not yet tried on motorway for any distance. Copes well with County Durham hills but needs a bit of revving.
-The controls for ventilation, lights etc are well designed - my other half thinks it looks nice and simple compared with our 57 reg Corsa.
-I ordered a full size spare wheel expecting a steel one and it is an alloy - good value for 136 quid extra, and it fits fine into the luggage space.
-The luggage compartment is well proportioned and has usefull bag hangers, and compartments at each side for concealing items. It also has a elasticated net thing for stopping stuff from moving around.
-Good quality CD/Radio - says you can plug in a USB stick - yet to try.
-The back seats have plenty of leg room.
Negative:
-Poor quality (rough sandpaper!) plastic on steering wheel - I can't remember noticing this on the test drive so maybe the SE is different. I will be investing in a leather cover ASAP.
-Poor quality plastic on gear change.
-The rear of the front seats are hard plastic. This does spoil the rear for passengers (in my opinion).
-On this basic Comfort model the head restraints are only adjustable up/down not forward/back - my other half found this a bit uncomfortable at first.
-Rather hard seats.
-The luggage space could be larger. I wonder if they included the spaces under the mat in the claimed 360L capacity?
-Slightly more road noise at speed than I would have liked. Wind noise noticable at 70 MPH. Noise espcially noticable over uneven surfaces.

Hi Batesy.
Good comments about the i30.
As I'm sure you know the full size spare does rob some luggage space. With a space saver the floor is a good 5cms lower all over.
I think the road noise is from the Korean tyres, Hankook or Kumho. Also theres not too much sound proofing, to keep weight down. When you need a change try some Michelins or Goodyears, I reckon that will help.
Is your car made in Korea (VIN beginning with K) or Czech Repubic (VIN beginning with T)?
I reckon the Korean ones are very slightly better made, less door seals and other little bits requiring reseating during my PDi.

I got a 1.4 I30 comfort on June 1st, now done 1800 miles and am impressed with all the features it has as well as handling and performance.
This was a Czech built car and the front head restraints DO adjust forward and back, as per the manual.
For the price, I reckon this model is unbeatable value.

...If i'd of known that I would have looked at one as well as the i30 (which I just bought)
Picking up my i30 next Saturday in any case and 5 years is still a good waranty.
I read somewhere that Hyundai (and probably Kia as its the same company really) are the only Manufacturer(s) to actually increase sales at the moment. I think most people who have the cash to buy a new car at the moment are recognising what good value they are for a quality product. Also from my experience the Hyundai Sales man was far more approachable and willing to negotiate - compared it to the Skoda dealer I visited that insisted he couldn't discount list prices by more than 8pc (when 15pc+ was available online).

batesy,
I see you live in County Durham, so that wouldn't be the Skoda dealer in the county that has just shut, would it?
Can't think there's much to choose between an i30 and a Ceed, particularly the smaller engined ones.
The Hyundai dealers are a bit longer-established than the Kia ones.
Seems to me Kia have some tremendous cars to sell, but are struggling to get a settled dealer network.

How are you guys getting on with your i30/Ceed? Ive just ordered one via scrappage, £7995 for the "basic" model is a bargain, especially as it isnt basic at all. Was very pleased to see it comes with ESP and side & curtain airbags as standard.

Judging from the firm suspension on my i30 Comfort petrol, the diesel might be a bit hard-riding due to extra weight. Avoid large-wheeled versions for this reason. The cars are extremely well made and should last a very long time. Loads of useful little extras like a dampened-hinge overhead spectacles container. A bit non-descrpit visually. Sewards of Christchurch excellent dealers - gave me a full day unaccompanied test drive with a full tank. (If you consider petrol, mine has given 43.2 mpg over 13000 miles.)
