I was sent a mailer for a device (can't recall the name - leaflet went in bin) which fitted behind the grille and which was in some limited way a parking sensor but was clearly intended to fox a speed trap - every image in the flyer was about speed guns.
Nowehere did it say they were legal and it had some mealy mouthed reference to calling them to dicuss legal status so I assume they aren't but I am idly curious to know if they are or not.

Paying the fine has got to be cheaper than prison time for perverting the course of justice!

Not legal. If you're caught with one fitted and working, you have to have a genuine reason for it - ie, a remote garage door opener.

There is provision under the RoadSafety Act to make these illegal but as yet there has been no commencement Order for the section.
If found to be fitted by Police at the moment they may well look at attempting to pervert the course of justice/obstruct Police.

As the device transmits radio waves on a licenceable frequency, ie not one that is deregulated for low power devices, almost certainly not legal now. An offence under the Wireless Telegraphy Act.
So from that point of view, probably no new legislation needed. Except as Pugugly probably knows, very hard to secure a conviction. Even if you change the law you are still going to need specialised equipement though as a box under the grille could be all sorts of quite legal devices.
And that's the rub, my transmiting licence (amateur) covers me for all sorts of frequencies some at quite hight powers, and if a radar gun has a poorly designed receiver probably could easilly be fooled.
Garage door openers though operate at a sub tv frequency and my TV aerial installers box could see their transmissions. Radar devices though transmit at way higher frequencies.

But most of the advertised ones are Infra Red laser jammers.
I'm sure someone somewhere, has used one as a garage door opener, but not many!.
I'm doubtful that IR is licensable, so it's down to PCoJ at present I think.
