You know you're onto a loser when even BRAKE disagree with you

Hmmm - it was in their patch that I D'd an alloy in a pothole on the Omega a few years back. Although I didn't claim, I imagine events like that could make it a very costly policy.

Surely if a council knowingly leaves a pothole unrepaired the "ambulance chasers" will have a field day.

That's the point, the County Council is trying to repair the holes, but the parish council (who pruport to represent the locals) is saying, leave them (the parish won't be repairing them or paying compensation!). Even BRAKE disagree with this stance saying that its dangerous.

Hope that attitude doesn't spread!
BTW that photo of the pothole is also purporting to be a pothole in Birmingham in another story on potholes on the BBC site... must be bigger than it looks!

That is *very* clever!
As a parish council chairman, I can tell you that the highways department can be incredibly, incredibly slow and inefficient to deal with issues on our roads.
This parish council has, at a stroke, ensured that all their potholes get fixed. Quickly.
Hmmm......
|
The guy on the radio yesterday who was trying to justify it just came across as a clown, and like someone has suggested he is just providing supporting evidence for anyone who has their damaged over one of his parish's potholes.
If he lets me know when he's driving through my village I'll put some nails down to slow him down
|
AC - I agree, I think that the Parish council have actually been very clever, they even mention in their quotes about the problems they have getting them fixed normally which was what gave the game away for me...
|
Apart from the rather neat way the parish council have acted, local councils have insurance cover against any claims for damage caused by pot holes etc.
|
...and who do you think pays for it all in the long run?
the council tax payer!

Someone has to pay for it, just be glad there is a tax-payer and a mechanism to get that money to the contractor that fixes it.
If there wasn't we'd have roads like the one's I've seen around the world (parts Russia and the Carribbean spring to mind) and that's not the way forward!
|
I pay council and road tax. I expect the roads to be maintained properly. Not to have to swerve to miss pot holes or damage my car in any way shape or form.

I live in this area. I can tell you why; as a frequent weekend cyclist, I tend to cycle on the crown of the road rather than to the left. The bulk of these potholes are closer to the kerb than elsewhere. There is no way I am going to risk life and limb (and wheels)by keeping to the left.
Some of these potholes go down as far as hell itself! I think the suggestion is outrageous. Does the council want drivers to look ahead? or does it want you driving with your eyes on the tarmac a few yards in front of the bonnet?
The person who came up with this suggestion has a head full of mad dogs.
