This weekend I went to Anson Engine Museum near Poynton (not far from Hazel Grove, Cheshire).
The museum has a large collection of engines, diesel, gas, free piston atmospheric etc.
At the weekend several of these were demonstrated, a number requiring propane blowtorching to pre-heat before starting, some engines are on loan from the Science Museum and Birmingham Museum, there are also sectioned models, lots of bits and pieces and documents on the history of Gardner, Mirrlees etc.
Its open most weekends from now and engines are likely to be running, check the website for how to find it.

By the way, as I approached from the M67 I passed a couple of "revenue raiser" speed cameras in a 30 limit on a slight downhill stretch - I was glad I had the SatNav warnings as it would have been very easy to inadvertently drift above 30 and not spot them as they were painted camouflage green rather than yellow.
Lets be careful out there!

A bit too far away from me being down in the South East but if I am ever in that area I will be sure to check it out!

Then try the chalk pits museum at amberly in sussex then. A load of interesting stuff there

It isn't an easy place to find. I've been past it many times but, it seems, never when it is open. I'll try again.
