New model's impact on depreciation of old one - Nazar
Hello

Does anyone have any info. on the affect of a brand new version of a given car on
values of the previous version ? Am thinking of buying an '07 Subaru Legacy Sport Tourer - however the brand new model has been announced & will be here in October.
Should I wait until the new model is here as (obviousy) this will cause further depreciation of the outgoing model. The dealers will probably tell me that the new model will have no effect on the outgoing model - but I find this hard to believe. I'd prefer not to wait until October but still use the new model's arrival as a bargaining tool.

Any advice, links to sites with info greatly appreciated.

It varies so much from car to car and how the car economy is running. Generally a new model replacement will see the previous model depreciate relatively faster as the months pass.

A lot of new engine technology is due out over the next 12 to 18 months, expect significant fuel efficiency improvements, power/torque increases, significantly lower CO2 (reduced VED), etc.

One of the biggest factors for car depreciation in future years will be fuel efficiency/economy.

Both the above factors are worth serious consideration before purchasing any new car.
