Hi, I've just brought a 2000 B5 Volkswagan Passat which has two key, But the one the keys needs reprograming to start the car.
It will unlock/lock it fine but i can't find the information to program it to start the car as the last owner changed a battery in it.
Many thanks.

00 1.9 How do i reprogram my key please? - PeterRed
There is a section in the handbook about matching a key to the car. I'll precis the section -

This must be completed within 1 minute:

1. Press the close or open button on the key ONCE. The car will remain locked.
2. Lock or unlock the car using the key
3. The key "bite" is recognised. Synchronisation is complete.

If the key is uncoded, it will require a trip to a VAG dealer. It cost me £150 last week to replace a lost key of which £40 was the charge to reprogram the car to accept the new key. They'll need ID and confirmation of ownership before they'll do it.

Thank for the reply, I went to my local VAG Specialists who told me it was a main dealer only job so i went to a local key shop who replaced the chip in the key, plugged in there code reader to find the immobiliser code and reprogrammed the key for £45.
Works perfectly now! :-)
