Hi Guys, I hope someone would be able to advise me? I have been reading through the forums and have come across similar issues but non identical to the symptoms my 406 has had and is giving me.
I will be as brief as i can but start from the beginning.
Drove my 406 through a flood.
Turbo decides to have massive lag and only kicks in a 3000 rpm but drives fine other than that.
Local garage changed water logged air filter - no change to turbo lag.
Then one morning the fuel pump (located in the fuel tank) decides to give up.
Second hand fuel pump fitted successfully and car starts fine, however 'air pollution fault' showing along with the engine management light on dash.
Car will not accelerate above 2500-3000 rpm
A few seconds over run occurring after switch off.
Half a tank of quality BP Premium Diesel put into tank and taken to garage for an ECU error reset as thought the error could be to do with the fuel pump change.
Engine starts fine, no Air Pollution Fault, regained power (throughout rev range) and no lag & restrictions in power anymore.
Engine switched off - over run returns again
Restart engine - air pollution error back.
Bosch Diagnostics computer shows following:
0100 error - mass air flow & 1138 (something to do with rail sensor??)
Reset faults - engine runs idle fine, revs normal and running good. Engine switched off and on several times and fault does not return. All ok until the car is actually driven and then the engine switched off, over run returns and error comes back.
Now i have the issue of the car dying on me when the revs are allowed to drop - i.e when having to become stationary. It also dies mid way through acceleration (no common pattern). As soon as the ignition is switched off and on again, the car starts fine, albeit with the A/P fault but then dies about every 100 yards of drive.
Pheeew - glad i have got that one off my chest. Tried to keep it brief. Any advise would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Sharon Nicholson

Has nobody got any ideas? :-(

Is the air filter wet? Does the air mass filter show any signs of rust?

Hi SeeFive,
Thanks for replying.
The air filter shouldn't be wet as it's new and was replaced after the flooding incident.....
As for the air mass filter i will check this tonight and let you know the outcome.

Hi
Just wondering how deep this flood was? There is a round (50mm) multipole connector in the engine bay on the front nearside, as it is quite low down, there is a posibility that this has become flooded. Best to first disconnect the battery and separate the connector then dry it using a hair dryer or hot air gun (with care), give it a squirt of WD40 and reconnect. Worth a try.

Have you done a forum search for 'Peugeot' and something like 'pollution'? I think you'll find a lot has been said on this subject. Good luck.

Hi SeeFive,
I have given my car to a mechanic friend and he has informed me that there is not anything wrong with the air flow sensor.
He has spoken to a garage which specialised in these cars and they have said that because of the over run after power off, the fact that i have replaced the fuel pump with a second hand one (which has been tested and is working fine) some dirt may have made it's way down to the high pressure pump which has a 'micro filter'????? Apparently if i replace this, remove the fuel tank, flush everything out and clear the lines, put a new fuel filter in and refill with a decent fuel, they are 90% sure that this will cure the problem. They have also said that the error with regards to the air flow sensor is probably coming up after the engine shuts off because it isn't getting enough air at that point, so a bit of a red herring. They have also said that the error regarding the fuel rail is because the high pressure pump is failing the fuel pressure in the rail is dropping below the required level, which in turn shuts down the engine??? Grrrrr, so much information to take in!
I just wondered what your thoughts (or anyone elses for that matter) is on this? Surely this high pressure pump couldn't get clogged that easily just by me putting in a second hand fuel pump in the tank? Surely you get dirt in the tank everytime you fill up?
Some thoughts on this would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Sharon
