Ah, thanks for that. Mine is due 1st May, so I'll make sure I use the full month in advance.

That said they don't always pass it on, a lot of places seem to be charging a nice round £50 at the moment.

It's getting to the stage where the test fee is worth more than my car :-(
MOT fees to be increased - nick
They're £35-£40 round here.

It's going up by about a pound, so I doubt we'll be seeing mass protests!

Actually, If the test is done correctly (which it often isn't) It's pretty good value for money.

There was a time when the test fee increase was because of major changes in the test, i.e introduction of rolling road brake testing equipment or the introduction of emission testing equipment.
Now it is just increased year in, year out as a matter of course. For fee read tax.

The fee goes to the garage performing the safety-related testing of your (and hopefully everyone else's) car.

Not exactly a tax.

Here, in Spain, I've just had the ITV (MOT equivalent) done on our car.
All test centres in the autonomous region where I live, are operated by the Andalucian Government; appointments are mandatory, the test takes about 15 minutes and the cost is 40,14 Euros.
Given the current dire exchange rate, (£38 approx), that's not as cheap as many would like!

Really. So why did my mate have to buy pads of MOT certificates from Swansea to use in his MOT station ?
MOT fees to be increased - Ben 10
You don't get a "cert" any more. Its more of a computer print out. All the info at the test is fed straight to Swansea. No need for a cert really. No pads anymore.

Nevertheless, I would be interested to know how much of the MOT the government abosorbs? I assume this will be made up on an annual license fee and the cost of stationary, also, is there a 'cut' of each test fee?
MOT fees to be increased - Mr X
So would I. I was under the impression that MOT testing stations paid a percentage of the test to the DVLA - a government department at the end of the day.
