99 1.0 12valve - refuses to start. - TimOrridge
Hi,

A friends daughters car (99T Vx Corsa 12v 998cc) his refusing to start totally out of the blue since other morning. You can turn on the starter but it does not fire. He has done basic testing and is saying there is no fuel and spark present at cranking.

Does anyone have any more ideas what to test so I can inform him please?

Is the ecu light flashing? If so, then its an immobiliser related fault.

Favourite to stop these starting is the crank/flywheel sensor faulty.hth

And the prize goes to....................... elekie@acdoctor. No really thanks for all replies. We had the man down (local auto electrician) and he started by plugging in his (£4,000!!!) scanner and it said crank position sensor no response. He then took it off (was fiddling on nearside near gearbox) and tested on a ohm meter and was dead. My friend is going to get a new one tomorrow and fit it so hopefully it will work.

4k is about right for a scanner, bear in mind that a scanner won't cover alll vehicles and he may have to spend the same again on another that covers other motors plus updates typically £400/600 a year but yes crank sensors are quiet common on these, Regards TB
