My Primera has the same engine blocks as 1.8 Nissan engine which is totally different to pre 1999 1.6 engine. When braking at a junction revs fall and engine cuts out. This only happens on average twice a week. Other times it is fine. Normal idle is 800. No other symptons. Any ideas? I have tried fuel cleaner additive.

Is this only while the car is warming up ?
i.e. it happens only within the first mile or two - and after that it doesn't happen ?
I guess it stalls as soon as you push the clutch in - and is even more prone to stall if you try turning the steering wheel ?

If its the 1.8 qg engine throttle body can play up, try cleaning it out.

Thanks, car has been to garage and they adjusted the throttle body, don't know exactly what this entails, so far ok but early days.
On a seperate note over it's 8 year life the car jas been run almost exclusively on non supermarket petrol (following Honest John's advice)! Don't know if this has helped kep throttle body clean until now?

The throttle body is the bit that intakes the air, so probably the petrol type wont affect this. I would say they have adjusted the base idle.
