Left hand drive cars - FrenchBoris
Hi

I live in France and need to buy a new car (hence Left Hand Drive). Someone at ( 8< SNIP ) suggested your site, I hope you can help me.

Apparently it can now be cheaper for someone in France to come to the UK, buy a LHD car, take it back to France and reregister it. Pricing I can check myself, but the question is - are there any differences at all between a UK LHD car and a regular French car with the same specification, and are there any other pitfalls, problems, etc to look out for.

Thanks for your help
Cheers

Modern French cars will be basically the same;however, when French "road tax"(I know there is no annual tax like the UK but there is a tax on initial registstration) was based on CV rating, many French market cars were built with different gearboxes/transmissions usually reducing performance to get them into a lower CV/tax class.

If it's anything like Spain it's usually just a paperwork chase - some people have gone to specialist companies here who will do it for a price, but others have done it on a do-it-yourself basis successfully
