02 1.9 TDI where is Temp Coolant Sensor ? - 1964johnr
I need to change the temp coolant sensor on my 02 TDI Pasat SE. Can anyone tell me where to locate the sensor. Any tips on replacement would also be useful. Thanks.

Between the back of the cylinder head and the bulkhead. Its held in place with a plastic horseshoe. Do it with the engine cool to avoid scalding. Put a little vaseline round the new rubber seal. Remove the plug and horseshoe and note the orientation of the old sensor in its location (makes it easier to refit the plug) Withdraw the old sensor which may need a bit of a tug and ensure the old seal comes with it, if it doesnt hook it out with a small screwdriver or bent bit of wire then push the new sensor fully home and slip in the horseshoe. If you do it smartly you'll only lose a few drops of coolant.
