03 1.6 electrical connectors - maltrap
I'm about to change the coolant temp' sensor on my golf engine code BFQ. i've tried removing the electrical connector (4 pin) without any joy so far. Do i need a special tool to get this connector to dis engage from the sensor. There are lots of electrical connectors on the car all of them seem to have a different way of locking together is there a web site or publication that might enlighten me on the mysteries of unlocking VW electrical connectors.

These can be a real pain to release.The tag at the back of the connector needs to be pushed down to release the front part but make sure the connector is pushed fully home onto the sensor when doing this other wise it will lock on.Best to remove the sensor with the connector attached to get a better view of what is reqd.hth
