Rover 400 radio replacement - Rich
Hi, I've got a 1996 420 sld and want to put a CD player in there. Anyone know if I'm limited to certain models? Someone in work is selling a goodmans for £25. Will that do me? Thanks.

As far as I know, the majority of radios fit in a Rover 400. I had a 200, and could fit in nearly all types. As far as Goodmans go, they are cheap and cheerful, but do not have the sound quality of a Kenwood, Clarion or Alpine. If you plan on keeping the same speakers in there, then a Goodmans will be fine. If you plan on upgrading your speakers, then I would go for something with better quality.

Just before you lay out your money, I think that there MAY be some interconnection between the digital clock, in a Rover 400, and that a radio or whatever won't work unless it interfaces correctly with the clock. I am not sure of my facts here but I deduce this from reading the bill that came for prepping a Rover 400 that I bough 18 months ago. Worth checking before you lay out cash on something that may fit but not work!

If you have an R770 or better radio you can buy an off the shelf phillips multichanger (the same spec as the factory fit model) which will work with the built in unit - I looked around a few months back & saw one new with a fitting kit for 150 notes on the net - might be a bit steep???
Most car stereo places can provide after market stuff which interfaces with factory fit stuff & will work with steering wheel controls etc.
Depends on your budget!!!!
