New swear filter [Read only] - Rattle
One does not make a habbit of swearing, but I just made a post which was entirely blanked out because I used a word which is not even a swear word as far I know. Surely it would work better if the swear filter just replaced the word? So if for example bagger was a swear old it would replace it with [filtered out] or something.

Sorry for making the post here, I've seen this a few times today and it must be making work for moderators trying to explain what has happened. I am not having a go at the moderators or websites, I just wonder it implentation of it was a bit short sited.

So no swearing you cheap lousy *******s.

I shall now take some lessons so I can refrain from swearing .

Refrain from swearing? You hum it, I'll sing it. :-)

Suspect the swear filter is based on US English where the word concerned, singular or plural, is offensive (or capable of offensive use).

Economical.

I don't know, I always think things look better without swearing. Besides, there might be someone, somewhere, that might take offense.

On the other hand, kiss my donkey. :oD

New Swear filter - Dynamic Dave
Mild expletives will leave the first letter and put ****'s for the remainder of the word, but heavy duty expletives will trash the whole sentence and replace with just ".*********" (this is not an invite or challenge to test the swearfilter, btw).

Depending on our mood at the time, mild expletives will either get edited out and replaced with "pink fluffy dice" or the whole post will get deleted. The instant auto deletion of heavy duty expletives saves us the bother of any editing.

See www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=33415 for further clarification.
