Car Washes - Whats the spray they use ?? - autumnboy
Noticed for sometime, whenever you go to a Auto car wash or one of these Hand car wash places. That after when the car has been cleaned they spray something that appears to be a wax or similar, then either blow dry or shammy dry.

Any clues as what it might be, as its difficult to remove from the Windsreen after.

emulsified wax.

I have never used the "wax" option for years, for the very reason you give. It ruins the windscreen

I thought it may have been glycerine.

Might be a "quick detailer" product. Handy to top up the wax in between proper polish/waxing sessions. I use some on my car post-wash; spray on, wipe off and leaves a nice shine which beads water really well.

Suspect on a windscreen it would be a devil to shift although I use it on side windows with no problem. Depends how good the product is though.

I used to use turtle wax rinse aid, avoiding the windscreen of course. Does bead water nicely as runboy says. Sadly it's no longer available. Anyone know of any alternatives?

a bunch of paper towels soaked in methylated spirit will shift it, but involves some elbow grease, and be careful not to drip any on the paintwork.
alternately a lukewarm washing up liquid solution and soft sponge.

Simoniz Mixra works for me every time - clears all the grease & wax off the windscreen in seconds with no effort.

Vinegar and newspaper is the way to go!

There are plenty of choice of these in wax rinses in Halfords which you wash the car, tehn put a couple of caps in a bucket and pour over with a cup or use a sponge. I have a 5 litre bottle meant fo automatic car washes from a valeting wholesaler. I'm not convinced it's good though to have water beading inside the doors and behind plastic trim etc... where it stays for much longer than it ordinarily would.

Sonax windscreen wash additive (little bottle) is the only thing I've found that can shift the greasy residue without needing to scrub. Incredible stuff, you can get it in Vauxhall dealers IIRC.

If you wash a car yourself, do a final rinse with a 2 gallon watering can with a fine rose, with blood heat warm water and a capful of dishwasher rinse aid. The water sheets off. Also useful if you hose blast an engine compartment, and then do above to avoid drying marks.
