03 1.9dci Engine "stop" light and other problems. - bchappie
Please help, i bought a 03 reg 1.9dci laguna a few weeks ago and started experiancing problems i was driving down the motorway when the engine stop light and the engine management light came on. i pulled over an it would not start again so i got recovered... a mechanic mate of mine looked at it and now its seems to be a ecu or injector fault as its losing the coding..is this a regular problem or can anyone shed any light.. hes fitted a fuel filter and got the diesel to maintain pressure but apparently the injectors are working intermitently thus allowing NOT enough fuel through hes also eplaced a turbo solenoid and cleaned the egr valve and throttle body... short of taking it to a main deal who will probably charge a fortune im and hes at a loss he did say i needed to obtain the code for the key. how do i get this what do i ask for and roughly how much is it?
much appriciated,
brett

I don't think any code for the key is relevant. When I bought my Peugeot I was given a credit card sized bit of plastic with a 5 symbol code on it (7FP92) sort of thing. Apparently my garage needs this info to interface between the car and the fault code reader - a bit like a banking PIN I guess.

You have 6 months of recourse to get the supplying dealer to sort it out. He has to prove that the fault was NOT present when he sold you the car (See FAQs link at the extreme top right of the Backroom page).

you need to get the key coded at the renault dealer so you might as well get the codes read to see what's going on.

how many miles has it done?

Probably barking up the wrong tree here, but could the coding actually refer to the electronic relationship between the ECU and the injectors, and actually nothing to do with the key?

its done 139k i think your right with the ecu and injector relationship hes been talking to a kid who works on renaults and hes said he'll bet a months wages that its the injectors at fault got to make a few calls to a specialist on tues...
So is this a regular occurance fault or am i just unlucky? all the other checks seem to be ok what should i look out for.. been told about a flywheel sensor any info would be good..
thanks

Have you taken the car to a fuel injection specialist? I had a problem which sounds very like the one you refer to. Renault said I needed an new injection pump (about £500). My local injection specilaist discovered it was the regulator valve on the pump (£55 inc diagnostics and fitting)
