Sometimes when I start my mondeo (petrol), mainly when the engine is still warmish, I have to 'catch it' by dabbing the accelerator to prevent it cutting out. The battery is nearly 3 years old and I do a fair number of shortish journeys. I checked the water levels in the battery and toped them up as they were low but not below the cells. I understand some people reccommend elective battery replacement every 3 years

No. It might be the supermarket fuel you're using though.

Unlikely. Sounds more fuel related to me, typical of elderly Fords in my experience.

Not the battery at fault, could be numerous things including a faulty Ecu from personel experience.Try increasing tickover.
