Financing an Import - devonjem
Hi - I am selling my car which I imported. Several potential buyers have said they want to buy it through a finance company, but the finance companies concerned will not finance an import.

Does anyone know a finance company that finances imported cars?

tks

Any bank will via a personal loan, surely?

I'm sure there are some "kneecap finance" type companies that will value the loan based on the car but either that's a line some people are using to knock the price down or all your potential buyers don't have much of a credit rating to start with. Perhaps they're only using that line so they can look like serious buyers when actually all they want to do is test drive.

Thanks for the reply. Both potential buyers said this without raising the test drive issue, and one said he wanted to finance the car through his business - so in his case the personal loan route was not an option.

So yes, maybe its a credit rating issue for these buyers, or maybe they are just coming up with excuses not to buy. I am not too bothered by it all, but if there exists a well known finance company that finances imports then it would be good to know so I can pass on the info to any buyer who intends to finance.

If selling privately the buyer would either get a secure (on house) or unsecured loan for the money. The import surely is irrelevant. Sounds like someone who cannot raise the money. Hang on for someone who can.
