Hope this is appropriate for this site, I'm a newbie.
Is the old Ford 5000 RDS a double DIN unit or not? Will a double DIN replacement like the Pioneer FH-P80BT fit directly or will I need to get a single DIN unit and a fascia adapter?
Many thanks in advance.

Never mind, answered a little quicker on another forum.

oh well, now we'll never know :-(

Look on the bright side though PU.
Reading between the lines, I gather this is about, not the car, but its ICE package. No wonder no one here had anything to say, being too deaf to hear music after all that Ferrari tuning in confined spaces,

See he's missing some refined conversation. We may not know the answer but damnit he'd would have enjoyed a first class banter.

I'd have replied if I had been clever enough to understand the question. I thought all these after-market wirelesses made a din......not sure what a double din is though....

Stereo. I'll get flamed in a minute by my fellow mods !

I always thought the Ford units were not standard double DIN to make stealing the stereos pointless. Unless you had a Ford. Then the myths of putting them in freezers and using them to get free Sky satellite kicks in too ;-)
The OP got an answer which he could have left here.
Apparently DIN is Deutsches Institut für Normung - i.e. a standard for car stereo size. Head units either single DIN (180 x 50 mm panel) or double DIN (180 x 100 mm panel) but the depth is not standard. So maybe Ford double DIN is a "standard"?

not sure what a double din is though....
Twice as much racket

Just measured the Focus - the radio aperture is 100mm, which probably makes it double DIN.
Looked into fitting a DAB radio a couple of years ago and was told a standard size unit could be installed with a blanking plate.
I think there are a large number of Fords with this size radio/CD which makes it worthwhile for specialists to produce custom fitting kits.

you lot are like buses, you know, none for days then suddenly..... But then with those answers, I guess a bus would me more useful too. lol
The DIN is indeed a standardised size for a head unit. You can get double DIN (2 x the size) head unit replacements too. Unfortunately, Ford decided to put 1.7DIN units in their cars. So I have purchased a DIN unit and a fascia adapter.

Double DIN facia adaptors aren't common, the Ford radios have a rounded shape so a rectangular double DIN inut might appear a bit 'gappy'. Apart from that everything should be OK.
