Hi,
My car has an intermittent misfire (which is accompanied by the EMU light) that can be sometimes cured by stopping and restarting the engine.
I have great faith in this forum, TOPBLOKE sorted out an earthing problem with my MAF / temp sensor earlier in the year !! Thank you once again !!
Anyway, I have used the paperclip method and have retreived the following code from my ECU :- 0352.
Via google, I have found that this is listed as 'Ignition coil 2 and 3'
What does this mean ?
What do I need to do to resolve ?
Cheap options are preferred, we have just had a second child and cash is short !!
Thank you, in advance,
Sutters.

Check the wiring between coil terminal 5 and terminals 17 & 18 of ECU connector for bad connections, shorts to earth, and shorts to positive.
Once you are sure that the wiring is OK, the fault must either be in the coil, or the ECU. 99 times out of 100, it will be the coil.

p0352 is a missfire code for number 2 cylinder as you have found out, if it has a constant missfire then swap number 2 cyl plug to a different cyl run it and see if the code changes ie p0354 if so its the plug, next up would be checking voltages at the coil pack i can run these past you if you need to check, we do change quiet a few dis packs on these, also ecu's !!!!! if it is a dis pack dont by anything but the genuine item, it could even be a injector fault !!!! if you know anyone with the same car as you, you could ask him if you can borrow his dis unit to confirm the fault. but with your previous history with this car i would not rule out the ecu, hope you fix it cheap Regards TB

>>see if the code changes ie p0354
Do these engines use a wasted spark, so there are only codes P0351 and P0352?
|
no, codes are p0351 through to p0354 the last number relating to which cyl Regards TB

My mistake - I was looking at data for X18XE rather than X18XE1

Hi,
As the misfire had now become constant, and as advised by TB, I changed the plugs as I had a set, No 2 was really wet and dirty.
It still runs with a misfire and is now reporting a second code after the original one :- P0131. A document of codes I downloaded off the web says that this is O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1) !
What does this mean ? Please advise !
My dad has the same vectra as me, so I might get him to come over so we can swap the dis unit (Is this the black block above the plugs ?? I think so....) and see if that makes any difference.
A 100 mile round trip, but I'm sure cheaper than buying one on the off chance....
Thank you for all your help, hope to hear from you all soon.

yes that big black thing is indeed the dis unit the other code is due to the missfire its because there is unburnt fuel before the cat which is where the first o2 sensor is , the code p0131 is infact o2 range/performance and will hopefully clear once the missfire is cured

Hi,
My dad came over and we swapped the dis unit and the car ran without any misfire.
Put mine back on and the mis fire returned.
Therefore, I have now got and fitted a new unit from Vauxhall and have a very smooth engine once again. I got the genuine one from Vauxhall as per TB.
Engine running well with no EM light on at all. Thank you TB !!
You are on my Christmas card list !!
Thank you for all your help once again,
Sutters.
