Watched the Matador one last night, funnily enough, although I think I've seen the Capri and the Frogeye ones before - the latter was a stunning job, and it truly shamed me watching a 20 year old girl turning a pile of scrap into a concourse car. To think I pay folk to do anything more complicated than changing a wheel....

Given the amount of times this (and other similar programmes) gets repeated on the Discovery Channels, I wonder how many people actually buy these DVDs?
|
Ah, but not all of us have Discovery Dave.

'Ah but not all of us have Discovery Dave.'
Is this another new channel with a daft name? :)

It's called that to distinguish it from the Dynamic Dave channel, which is reputedly all about Vauxhalls ...

There was one here last week which featured the chap buying the landcruiser, with the aim of driving it back to South Africa.
He admittd that had he known how much the whole gig would cost, he wouldn't have even considered it.
What caught my eye were the East London (S Africa) number plates - CE 109 xxx, which brough back memories of CE 22015, CE 77849, CE 102 079, CE 107 117, all owned by my family members.
Great show, though.
You guys get Chip Foose on your version of Discovery?

Can't recall seeing Chip (Boyd Coddington's rival) on any of the UK Discovery programmes; only the occasional mention of him on American Hodrod.

Foose does a "candid-camera" type show called Overhaulin'.
Normally involves some bloke who has an old wreck which he hopes to do up, often a family heirloom, but Foose has it taken away under false pretences, and does a floor-up rebuild within a week or so, all the time having pranksters tring to convince the 'mark' that there is a genuine reason why they have his car.
gets a lot of input from the police etc, so the mark is convinced there is a crime being committed, or insurance fraud etc etc etc.
Until the 'reveal' where he is tricked somewhere, and they drop the "You've been overhauled" line on him, and show off the dream car.
Bit like Pimp my Ride, but without the hype, and much more technical stuff shown and discussed.
Seeing Foose's paper designs come to life in metal is quite impresive.
back to coddrington (RIP), I saw a show where he fired the one bloke who was working out-of-hours for Foose, designing wheels.

There was also the time where Boyd spat the dummy over Charlie (the body shop guy) wanting to take some leave to go work for Foose for a little while.

I like the actual rebuild stuff on Overhaulin', but it is sometimes a bit mean how they do the cover story. They told one old guy that his cherished '60's muscle car had been stolen by a gang of thieves. They piled it on for a week and the bloke seemed genuinely devastated. He was chuffed with the restoration though, but it was quite painful to watch at times.
