At the beginning of August 08, my Ford dealer topped up my coolant level (the orange antifreeze) to the maximum mark.
Since then the level has gone down to about 3/4 full.
I am obviously concerned that I may have a leak and if not how else could the level go down ?
(I have driven about 1700 miles since it was topped up).

is this petrol?, or diesel?.
Anyhow, coolant either drips out of pipe juctions. water pump bearings, thermostat flanges, or worse of all, gets 'evaporated' by theengine due to head gasket leak. Diesels also 'lose' coolant through cracked head.
so get looking for leaks at junctions, undr the car, in the engine bay, round the heater.
Hopes it's not the dreaded head gaskets.
Normal coolant top up would be every year, by a cupful at most - in my experience, far a car your age.

My coolant level sit below the max mark. But if I look at the end of a journey, it's right up there!
Is it below the Min mark when cold? if not, then there's no problem.

Don't forget that if Ford refilled the system then there will be a slight settleing of the level as any trapped air gets pushed out. As long as it doesn't go below MIN don't panic...
