Paraffin burning `tramp steamer`detected on M1 - oilrag
Smelt burning paraffin on the M1 last week - near Sheffield and came up behind a small flat-bed (1 car) transporter. Only a few years old too.

A surprise really, what`s the benefit? Isn`t paraffin and a splosh of engine oil just about as expensive as Derv?
The last time I smelt paraffin was behind a Landrover during the last fuel strike.

I thought cooking oil had taken over as the engine wrecker

Wasn't being fired on by an Indian frigate by any chance was it oilrag? Apparently those Somali pirate mother ships are everywhere these days.

I smell paraffin quite frequently these days - usually a scruffy transit, or something similar "near end of life" is the source.

Maybe it's the cheaper option now they've broken up the Paraffin Mafia...

It was probably burning 28-second heating oil - a lot cheaper than DERV, but not good for modern engines and fuelling systems.

CH oil (28 sec kero) is about 40 p/l delivered, but I believe there is a thriving "secondary" market in the stuff.

Not much diif to Avtur - my oil CH boiler smells just like the apron at Culdrose!
