05 1.6 Starts on 4 cylinders but only running on 2 - Help!
Hoping someone can help. Having problems with a megane scenic (2005, 1.6) that is only a few hundred miles over the warranty limit (ouch).

When car is started all 4 cylinders are being used, but once running only using two.
Emissions warning came on and felt/sounded as if there could be a hole in exhaust. Loss of power also. Pencil coil has been replaced but issue not resolved. Further testing is being done today but suggested that probability that ECU will need to be replaced. Concerned about having ECU replaced if there is no certainty that this is the cause of the problem. Would be very grateful for any thoughts on this.

(Apologies - posted this in discussion forum in error)

ECU replacement is a last resort after a lot more testing.

That said, if you can get Renault to pay the bill, let them do what they feel they need to. Renault are generally pretty co-operative for "just outside" warranty claims, as long as the car has a full Renault dealer history.

Firstly; what is the fault-code? "Pencil coil replaced" - singular?

Is there a 12v feed to all the coils? Which cylinders are not firing?

Not sure what the fault code is to be honest. Had 2 coils replaced under warranty a few months back (nos1 &3) and 1 replaced the other day. Will have to speak to the garage to try and get the answers to the questions. Although 1 bit of major good news - Looks like I am now going to be covered by warranty after all!

Do not assume new means working. Haven't they even found which cylinders aren't firing?

They changed 1 & 3, are you sure? I allways replace then as a triggered pair. Either 1 & 4, or 2 & 3.
