Bit of an odd one this. I changed a few months back from a Focus II 2.0TDCI to a Focus III 1.6 TDCI . This new one never seems to illuminate the glow plug light when starting her up. At first I thought it was due to the summer weather even though the old car always lit it for a couple of seconds prior to starting. Now after some colder weather I've decided it can't be that .
Can anyone else confirm the presence of a glow plug light on a similar car. I'm assuming it should be on the speedo like on the previous car. I suppose I might just have a defective bulb from new.
Thanks .

Surely the drivers manual, if you've got one, should indicate what lights up on the dash when you turn the key?

The diagram of the instrument panel does not indicate any locations of any warning lamps.
The text for the Glow plug indicator states
"If the glow plug indicator lamp illuminates, wait until the it (sic) extinguishes before starting."
I've got in the habit of pausing for a couple of seconds when turning the key anyway, but I was just wondering if anyone else with a similar car can confirm that I should see the glow plug indicator briefly illuminate.

You probably wont see the glow plug lamp illuminated on one of these diesel engines unless its about -20 centigrade outside !

I have 2 mark 2 Focus diesels. Both display the glow plug icon momentarily on the instrument cluster before starting.

The glowplug warning light on the 1.6 TDCi normally lights up for about a millisecond, in really cold weather it lights up for about 0.5 second.

Hi, I am so glad that you posted this thread, I have just recently purchased a 2008/58 Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 TDCI, I too have never seen the glow plug light illuminated and it was starting to worry me a tad, its looking though as this maybe the norm on our model ?
