Not sure if it has been mentioned here but the Daily Mail is running an article today stating that Dodge is basically offering 2 for 1 on their cars now.

Even at buy one get one free, they would still loose 90% of their value in the first 1 week!
|
I think it's Broadspeed who are doing this, not Dodge.

This is the actual story:

Broadspeed.com managing director Simon Empson said ........ "For franchised dealers to be giving away a free car means that someone, somewhere along the line is making a very big loss and that just hasn't happened before."
He doesn't say Broadspeed is making a loss, just that "someone, somewhere along the line is making a very big loss." !

I bet this is at full-whack though.
A £15,000 Dodge Avenger is already available for about £8000 -- so two for one at £15000 is hardly a massive offer, especially as you are essentially doubling sales.
Of course, if you could get two for say ten grand, that might be more tempting.
At the end of the day, if the cars are any good they should sell on their own merit. There is a market for cheap cars, but they have to be at least half-decent.
|
What is actually wrong with the car? I am guessing being American it has a lot of play in the steering, no feeling, bounces like a yoyo and has the stopping distances of a 1 mile long cargo train. Am I close?

HJ gives it 2 out of 5 in the c - b -c
|
HJ aslo gives 5/5 for the 2cv :D.

Yes, but the 2CV was conceived 70 years ago!!

I drove from Calgary to Vancouver in a hired Dodge Avenger last summer. It was comfortable and fully loaded ? leather seats, electric sunroof, aircon, cruise control, satellite radio etc. In Canada it seemed like quite a good car ? but I don't know if I'd enjoy driving it here. Probably a bit too wallowy, vague in the steering and thirsty for the UK.
|
I drove an Avenger and its a good car at £7-8000.
|
With reliable VW/Mitsubishi engines under the hood, and that price, I'd be surprised if there weren't a load of minicab Avengers around pretty soon.
|
Biggest drawback would be fuel consumption. The cars on this 'deal' are 2.4 petrol models. Around town you would be looking at around 20mpg.
|
Their site is pretty coy about the whole thing. I love the shape of that car - as mentioned before the Police in Maine drove identical cars badged as "Magnum" in a matt sort of black with black chromed wheels - looked very menacing.

The Dodge Magnum is based on the Chrysler 300C, rear wheel drive and very nice to drive for an american car as it uses bits of the Mercedes W210 E-Class in the chassis, I've had a few as rental cars. The outwardly similar Dodge Avenger is based on the smaller, front wheel drive Chrysler Sebring which is a nasty product and engineered, if that is the right word, for maximum cheapness.

I would be a good advertising ploy to put the car on the map and start people sniffing.

Deal must have been OK as they are now all sold
