Hi
Picking up TT TDI for the wife tomorrow, any tips on running in procedure on this new TDI engine?
Thanks

Generally keep revs below 2,500 for the first 1,000 miles or so.
I've had two 2.0TDi A3s and I've done this for both, after that driven them normally and neither has used excessive amounts of oil.
I'm currently running round in a new A4 Avant with the new common rail 2.0 TDi and it is a vast improvement on the 140 PS PD version.

Perhaps you could start another thread telling us about the different engine characteristics you found between the A3 with the old PD TDi engine and the A4 with the new CR one ?
I,for one ,would be very interested in your comments.

I'd say the sensible things like wot I do ..........
After starting let it idle for perhaps 30s before driving.
Use light throttle, change gear at about 2500 revs, until normal temp is reached.
( Could be 5 - 10 mls in current weather )
Dont let the engine labour, no lower than maybe 1500 revs.
If you need to overtake, no need to redline it.
Before switching off, let it idle for a while.
That's what I do.........but then I'm a bit of an obsessive ex engineer.

Buy some good quality sticky tape and marker pen.
Cut a piece that fits on the filler flap and write diesel on it.
Also put a sticker on the steering wheel as a reminder to begin with.

...but don't whatever you do put R8 style side blades on it. I saw a modified current shape TT recently that had them and it looked REALLY stupid.

Credit crunch what credit crunch? LOL. Lucky wife..
With my TDI I was told by the dealer to give it some "sympathetic stick" from the start. Previous advice given for a cold engine applies but 4,000 on a fully warmed engine should be fine. Also don't accelerate abruptly of sharply, keep it smooth and progressive.
Some people are too gentle with their new engines and they never bed in properly.

I would never give unasked advice on how to drive to my wife. She would simply blank it. If she asked, I would comment. Like: check the oil/tyre pressure occasionally/ clean the screen/stop talking at junctions:) Tomorrow I'll look at the tyre depth as she's asked me to. Its her responsibility to know how to drive, and to take care of the thing. I'm happy to help. That's as far as it goes.
