Falling values? RAV4 - legacylad
Several months ago a friend of mine wanted to sell her '55 RAV4 XTR 5 Dr 2.0 diesel privately@£8k She had no buyers, and is now in a position where she really needs something more powerful to tow a single horsebox. The current mileage is 58k...av. condition. If she puts it into the BCA SureSell auction, can anyone give a 'very' approximate figure as to what it might sell for? I suggested £6k as per the Vauxhall website. All proceeds go towards a tow vehicle. She is thinking of a Disco, but I am sure that BR's can suggest alternatives....

If she's had a good experience with her Rav4 she could always try a landcruiser?

Mitsubishi Pajero is also nice, tho the diesel sounds really bad due to only 4 cylinders.

I would have thought a Rav4 would easily handle a single horsebox, you don't need great weight for stability as horse trailers are very stable indeed....no pun...well maybe;)

Instead of making a large loss on the car, how's about getting a 'steinbauer' chip for it, one of the best and very reliable too, will improve greatly that all important low speed torque for towing, or maybe a remap for low end torque instead.

If grip is a problem on grass, replace the tyres with decent on/off road tyres.

If she trades up to a disco or landcruiser they will both go into high rate road tax next year, and fuel consumption will drop to 30 or so when not towing.

Of course if she fancies a change then thats different, and as said above, landcruisers are usually bomb proof.

Didn't someone post on here that a RAV4 exhaust is about £1200 as they only are a 'Toyota' part? Or did I read that wrong?
