99 1.6 Noisy ABS. - bigbunny
Having a problem with ABS noisy as the vehicle is stopping and running on for a second or two after it stops. The garage says expensive repair and told my wife to sell the car but is it really that bad? We are unlikely to be able to sell the car easily with this problem. Does anyone have any ideas? Does it mean a new ABS unit is needed or could it be something more simple?

Thanks Mark

Could you give more clear details of the exact problems?

Does the abs actually cut in? At all slowing speeds? or is it just noisy pump etc?

The only time I can hear it is just before we come to a standstill the pump? cuts in quite noisily and carries on after the car has stopped, probably in all 2-3 seconds.
thanks

Vibration and/or pulsating through the brake pedal just before the car comes to a halt could be an indication of a problem with a reluctor/impulse ring for the abs system. There is one fitted to each wheel hub.Very unlikely to be the main hydraulic abs/pump modulator unit.hth

Thats possible as it does seem to be the drivers side front the noise is coming from, unless the ABS unit is down there in the engine compartment. Would I take it to a garage specialising in ABS problems and is it likely to cost arms and legs? The wife is nagging for a new(er) car and I just want to guage whether to trade in or get the problem sorted.

Thanks Yorkie bar and elekie&a/c doctor for your interest so far.
