03 2.0 12v socket ignition feed required - I'm a Pane
Hi all.

Currently running an 03 Passat and need some advice. The cigarette socket runs on permanent live and I would like it to turn off with the ignition. I have a bluetooth speaker/handsfree kit plugged in and currently have to unplug/plug back in overnight to avoid battery drain. My previous cars did not have this problem since the sockets turned off! So the question is, how easy is it to change the wiring/feed? And if easy how would I go about it? OR in BR experience would the drain of such a device be so minimal that leaving it plugged in overnight would make no difference/be safe?

I'm sure it would be fine to leave for say 24 hours, but you would need a multimeter that can measure amps to be sure.

Changing the cigar lighter to be switched is not easy on this car On some cars you can simply move a fuse.

If you need to do this, you would probably need to find a switched spare fuse position and unclip and move the wire/fuse-socket for the cigar lighter to the other position.

IIRC, the fuses are not with the main fuses behind the side panel, but they are over the brake pedal on an additional relay and fuse plate and require the removal of the knee/kick panel to get to. There is also a switched power point near here, which has several large red cables held on a stud with a nut. To power a device of mine situated in the glove compartment, I ran a wire from this to the glovebox and also an earth -ve and cut off the cigar plug and wired in permanently with solder and heat-shrink tubing.
