Battery Maintenance - TimOrridge
Hi all,

I have noticed now the cold and damp spell has bestowed upon us, The cold morning starts have been slightly sluggish than normal. It still starts just the tone of the starter is down. The car gets a good 30min to an hour drive every day. Is that enough to maintain charge. It is fine in the high seasons. Is just topping up the fluid ok or is a regular charge (monthly) beneficial? The battry is 2 years old.

Any ideas as I dont want to come out to a flat battery

An Audi 80 is a few years old and the battery is only two.

Could it be a lazy starter motor?

Might be worth whipping it out (oo, er missus) and lubing the pinion - we used to use Redex, but I imagine any clinging oil will do.

>>whipping it out

You might just find that the whole engine is supported by the starter.

(iffy battery?)

Should be enough of a charging period, if the charging is happening correctly.

Take the battery to your local "Motorbits" shop, or "Tyres 'n' Batteries" place, and get them to test it - it should only take a minute or two, and shouldn't cost!
