Car required, diesel, £10k budget. Advise needed. - audiA6tdi
Im after a car for business, mondeo size with a budget of around £10 - £11k.
Ive looked at a 57' plate passat and like the car but have heard a few problems with water leaks etc. Can anyone recommend a good car for my budget? Im after something with low miles on 10k, as il be putting a few miles on with business use.
The Peugeot 407 is quite cheap and the Honda Accord gets a good write up on the cdti engines.
After working the motortrade for 3 years its now my turn to buy a car!

Advice gladly received

thanks

I'd go for a Volvo S60 D5 SE 185 - they're on run out and fabulous value at the moment. Nicer cars than either the Mondeo or Passat if you do a few miles, fast and economical. £10k will buy you a nice 07 model with sensible mileage if you are in the trade.

Wouldn't bother with the 407 as I find they're thirsty (sub-40mpg) in 2.0 136ps guise and I certainly wouldn't spend £10k on one although they're OK to drive. Accord is OK but again, £10k is too much as they are nothing special IMO.

Other than that, the new Mondeo is probably the most obvious option. You should be able to get a diesel version with about 20k for around £11k in the trade. The old shape should not be dismissed but don't spend £10k on one.

Try the Volvo as PD suggests - the diesel makes a nicer noise than a 4-cylinder. But also try the Mondeo and Octavia - both 2.0 diesels - and the Accord 2.2.

If it were me I'd very likely end up with the Octavia. I'd value the extra oomph of the 2.0 TDI, but thhere are plenty of people on this forum who favour the 1.9 for logical reasons of economy.

I am running a Honda accord diesel tourer and all I can say so far its a superb piece of engineering well worth a look at.

I'd go with either an Octavia, Passat or Mondeo. The Passats wear quite badly after 100k miles, so if you're going to keep it longer than that then I'd stick with the Octavia or Mondeo.
