04 1.8i Eratic Idle when warm then settles? - langdon
Just taken our petrol 04 Mondeo out of the garage where it has been sitting for about three months, started absolutely fine and runs great, (50,900 miles only) however after it got warm i noticed every time we came up to a junction or traffic lights to stop, the revs fluctuated up and down between 500 and 1,000 five or six times then settle back to normal? Any ideas please?

Possibly a sticky idle control valve; have a listen for any hisses from an air leak in a breather hose etc.

Yes it was! took the rubber hose off, squirted some carb cleaner down there and the difference was immediate, ticks over fine now. many thanks screwloose for replying.

Is this generally a good first thing to try if car is idling erratically, that is squirting some carb cleaner or maybe WD40 into the inlet ??

I have some occasional minor idling problems.
