Can anyone suggest a museum or other place, preferably with a motoring theme, to visit in Hampshire area, must be open on a Sunday.
Preferably near A30, A303, or M3.
All I can think of are the Airborne Forces Museum in Aldershot and the Gurkha Museum in Church Crookham. Any ideas please?

The obvious one is Beaulieu!

Thanks Marlot, but that is where we will be on our way back from!

Might be slightly too far north but there's the REME museum at Arborfield, Berks open Sun but not Sat - www.rememuseum.org.uk/

Another place well worth a visit is the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum between Southampton and Bournemouth. Google it for details

Haynes Motor Museum, Sparkford, Yeovil, Somerset, BA22 7LH
not Hampshire i'd admit, but is right on the A303 and achievable. i.e. easy to get to and a half hour blast on the two laned A303 has to equal an hour in Hampshire lanes

www.hollycombe.co.uk is pre-motoring - a steam museum with everything from traction engines to proper fairground rides.
Selborne was the home of Gilbert White, the naturalist, and also the home of Captain Oates - whose house is fascinating, complete with artifacts from the Pole challenge. Village has good tea places and pub/s.
Sammy Millers Museum is just outside New Milton, not far from the A35.

And there is Milestones in Basingstoke, a transport museum allegedly, however although I only live 10 miles away, I've never been there.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Lots of food for thought.

My geography is a bit hazy! There is a branch of the Imperial War Museum at former RAF Wroughton, near swindon. I agree with the Haynes recommendation - they have some great 20s and 30s Packards and Duesenbergs if big and beautiful does it for you!

This is only open at odd times. A forum search should find my previous postings and links to lits new name plus lots of pics.

RAF Wroughton is probably a bit too far West. Of the suggestions so far I like the Flying School Museum at Wallop, but I am not the sole arbiter.
Thanks for all the suggestions, please keep 'em coming.

If you want to deviate from transport the try the Hawk Conservancy Trust 4 miles from Andover, just off the A303. See all sorts of Hawks up close. Fascinating with good flying displays and brilliant home made cakes in the cafe last time we were there!

At the place I used to work,we had an Oates and a Shackleton-both related and two World champions-one in sailing and the other in m/c sidecar racing.

I went there a little while after it opened, front half is one of those pseuo-Victorian streets with variety of recontructed shops and a railway station waiting room, back half had all sorts of displays of various Basingstoke related items ( stuff form Thornycroft fo example), plus a real life Gordon Keeble.
edit : D'oh I'm talking about milestones Basingtoke.

OK, it's not motoring, but they all have engines:
The Museum of Army Flying
Middle Wallop
Stockbridge
Hampshire
SO20 8DY
Except, of course, the gliders....
