91 1.6 hot restart - scrumpyjax
Our 216 frequently won't restart when it's a bit warm. If you do a decent run and it gets hot it will restart ok, but a short run almost guarantees hassle--it will fire up then die immediately.
If we wait a couple of minutes it will run again. It's a real pain at the pumps!!!
It can't be too serious or it wouldn't go so any suggestions please??

Crank sensor, coolant temp sensor, fuel pump, or relay module would be my first checks.

Hi - my 416 honda engine - sometimes wont start when its a hot or just a hot day / parked near a sunny wall etc - turned out to be the relay module behind the centre consoles as noted in many other rover threads. However it also wont start if it does not have time to warm up. It will cold start fine in any weather now, but if I stop it in less than about 3 or 4 minutes it is a sod to restart, even a day later . Running any longer than 5 mins and its not a problem. No idea on that one yet

Almost certainly the fuel injection Main Relay - see...

...for links to detailed diagnostics; if not the relay then the Ignition Module.

My rover 216 appears to have same problem. It appears as if all rovers have this similar problem, mine starts after series of attempts to start it and the water easily gets hot and i dont know what to do. Try and also get the fuel filter checked for urs.

You need to follow my link posted above; the diagnostic information on the "Tegger" page describes a specific sequence of clicks, whirrs and lights which indicate correct operation of the Main Relay. Next time your Rover refuses to start, check for the sequence. If it's not correct, you just need to re-solder the Main Relay (see links for details).
