I much enjoy browsing this site and can't help noticing the absence of several familiar figures recently: For example, where is Aprilia with his vast technical knowledge, Altea Ego with his sense of humour, what happened to SJB - last thing I heard he went off on a bike tour of France, also Cheddar, with his passion for Mondeos? Where's everyone gone? Just wondering...

Yes. Bell boy has a very particular attitude and a poetic licence that takes a bit of beating. I miss all those mentioned in the OP too, and Adam, and mrmender.

People come and go, that's the way life is. There are a number of forums I visit that people have moved on. Boredom can be a factor, when you've been around a few years you inevitably see the same old topics coming up time and time again. Must drive the mods mad...

Supermarket petrol worse than branded anyone ;-)
Regulars - where is everyone? - Lud
Yup. Can't help thinking sometimes: This is where I came in.

A bit like being a minicab driver or working in a gay coffee bar after about six or eight weeks. People have their limits and the same old carp tends to keep scrolling past...

The tablets help control it.

I suppose it's a bit like a pub. People enjoy coming to in to a particular one for a while and sometimes they move on. It is a pity though as some of the above were indeed highly entertaining and informative. Not beyond possibility that some are actually still here in an Inspector Clouseau like cunning disguise ??

>>Where's everyone gone? Just wondering...

Yes, sometimes I think that too - there are a few people I miss. Several of those mentioned - plus people like Patently, Vin, Artful Dodger, MTC.

But there is always the other way to look at it. I'm glad that there are some people who are still here after all these years, who have not yet gotten bored or shuffled off this mortal coil.

I need to remind myself that the glass - sorry, make that the fuel tank - is not half empty, it's half full.

Could I please apply to be a "Trainee Upstart" ? I don't dare to ask for full or even Jnr. Upstart status yet but I'm working very hard on it. To state my case I feel I have many of the qualifications and requirements for the position. I regularly go off topic, state the blinking obvious, ask questions which have previously been debated ad nauseam, irritated a few people, post far too much, have been told off for almost swearing once, frequently miss the point of threads etc etc.

Cripes, I think that's the second time we've agreed on something.

For the good of caustic forum debate. let's hope it doesn't happen too often.

Speed & stability here are very poor especially in IE, amuses me that it bans avatars, smilies. but has loads of moving ads which are intrusive & very often bandwidth hungry.
Regulars - where is everyone? - tr7v8

That's by choice, never an issue on every other forum I'm on. So the flashing moving adverts here that consume bandwidth aren't an issue then?
Some of these are very poorly implemented & cause this to crash on IE. This is done using Firefox so all that junk is blocked & doesn't crash. One of the reasons why I spend less tie here than elsewhere.
Regulars - where is everyone? - Lud
Firefox is free I thought TR7. You can easily get it. I've got it and there aren't any pop-ups or spyware or any of that malarkey when you use it. Of course if there were I wouldn't have a clue what to do.
Regulars - where is everyone? - ifithelps
tr7v8 wrote: 'So the flashing moving adverts here that consume bandwidth aren't an issue then?'.

Not to me, I ignore 'em.

Your technical knowledge would not need to be great to exceed my own, but presumably the forum would work quicker without them?

That would be better, but there's something on here somewhere about the ads paying the rent.

If you've lost interest in the content, fair enough, but I think most of us would agree it would be a shame to lose someone over technical issues.

Hello Lud I still tune in about 3 or 4 times a week. got a bit bored with putting my 2 new pence worth in as everbody seems to know better!
Still have a passion for all things car. As you know Lud. the older car is my bag. I have also started my own colllection of a certain type of older VW. Which if I mention the model, no doubt some "All knowing person"will tell me how carp they are. So I stick to a forum devoted to this model!

No FM2R had problems with his anger management medication.
He could be a nice guy too tho - after a row on here with him on 7/7 he offered to drive my Aussie brother-in-law, who was stranded in the West Midlands, to Stansted airport. Serious offer too. I was amazed.

If Aprilia has done an Elvis and left the building, though, that's bad news. That guy has saved me hundreds by diagnosing stuff for me on here!

If I remember right, Aprilia is a freelance engineering consultant of some sort who sometimes takes assignments abroad. He could be on one of these, and maybe return one day. Like others, I hope so as his advice was pretty well always right and given without arrogance.

And his nom de plume reminded one of those lovely pre-war Lancias which were good to look at and, I'm told, great to drive. There are few modern equivalents - the Golf GTI comes close (Marks 1 and 5) and perhaps in its day the Alfasud.

I never saw anything other than reasoned argument from Mark. An evening's debate over a few bottles of wine would have been fun.

He could be blunt, and you may not have liked or agreed with what he said, but it was usually well thought-out and accurate.

Born in Yorkshire, I prefer blunt and accurate to verbal mimsing*.

Mostly true, but he had an unfortunate tendency to go for personal attacks when a disagreeing party didn't capitulate; said remarks then mostly deleted by the mods.

Shame really, he had a lot of value to add when he felt like it.

No pics of the garage yet, but if you're even slightly intersted in what you can do to a building, in such a short space of time....
