"On the other hand, are there still some here that you wish weren't? ;-D"
I was just about to post the same thing, and name a couple of names, and there's one in particular I'm jolly glad has gone.
But then I thought my name would be at the top of the "balloon debate losers list".
But THEN I thought - and this is worse - I wouldn't even make THAT list.
:)

SjB's twins are about 2 now so are probably keeping him busy - his disappearance more or less coincided with their birth.

I know I've upset one or two members with puerile replies (for which I apologise), but I've turned over a new leaf.

Well at the risk of getting too touchy-feely, Mr Snail, you are not one my Names!
|
On most websites people come and go but if we have seen the last of Aprilia then that truly is a loss.
His knowledge of all things automotive but in particular older Mercs was astounding.
|
Seconded. Aprilia hasn't posted since 1 Feb. I reckon the mods should e-mail him and encourage him back.

While on the subject, what happened to Rob the Bus, HF (Helpless Female?) and Volvoman?
Or am I just showing my age?
Must agree that Aprilia is sadly missed.
And Mark (RLBS?) and his other names.
|

2 of those 3 are still here.
RTB, now Badwolf.
Volvoman, now Mazda-Man.
HF - left for personal reasons.
|
Didnt Mark(RBLS) become 'NO FMTR', still not been around for some time though I think.
|
aren't u appreciating the newbies then?
|
Come clean though fox: are you really a fox?
|
hmmm not sure i want to answer that! fox is my surname.
|
Am I the only one who doesn't miss No FMTR or whatever he called himself. He could be very short with anyone who didn't agree with his view - I speak as someone on the receiving end of his superior knowledge.
|
No FM2R had problems with his anger management medication.
He could be a nice guy too tho - after a row on here with him on 7/7 he offered to drive my Aussie brother-in-law, who was stranded in the West Midlands, to Stansted airport. Serious offer too. I was amazed.
If Aprilia has done an Elvis and left the building, though, that's bad news. That guy has saved me hundreds by diagnosing stuff for me on here!
|
If I remember right, Aprilia is a freelance engineering consultant of some sort who sometimes takes assignments abroad. He could be on one of these, and maybe return one day. Like others, I hope so as his advice was pretty well always right and given without arrogance.
And his nom de plume reminded one of those lovely pre-war Lancias which were good to look at and, I'm told, great to drive. There are few modern equivalents - the Golf GTI comes close (Marks 1 and 5) and perhaps in its day the Alfasud.

>No FM2R had problems with his anger management medication.
I never saw anything other than reasoned argument from Mark. An evening's debate over a few bottles of wine would have been fun.
He could be blunt, and you may not have liked or agreed with what he said, but it was usually well thought-out and accurate.
Born in Yorkshire, I prefer blunt and accurate to verbal mimsing*.

I suspect there are a lot of people like me - who read often, but post less frequently.

Mostly true, but he had an unfortunate tendency to go for personal attacks when a disagreeing party didn't capitulate; said remarks then mostly deleted by the mods.
Shame really, he had a lot of value to add when he felt like it.

Interestingly enough, a forum search will reveal that while Lud may now own the copyright, he was not the earliest user of the word in the Back Room

No FM2R had problems with his anger management medication.
His inclusion of the F in his forum name told me all I needed to know about his character.

RLBS became NoFM2R but the nom de plume is from RTFM a recognized abbreviation in help forums ( Read The Fine Manual) - no obscenity there at all.
En Passant Mr. Snail have you actually acquired a new shell or are you still looking?

No FM2R posted some of the most incisive comments here in many fields - but not motoring!
As for the software, I reckon it's the best forum software I've ever seen. No tabbing through endless pages; no irritating smilies, and a sensible fontsize.
This place is very quiet at the moment. No doubt this will change!

Some on here don't want incisive, they don't want to be challenged, and they don't want to change what they think (if think is the right word!). I miss Mark's posts more than those of any of the other people who have come and gone in the brief time I've been in the BR.
|
Can't say that I miss reading his drivel. Can't say that I miss his bullying of people, I am sure he did more to keep the membership of the forum down rather then up!!!
|

Haven't yet found a buyer for ours. 17 viewers, all loved the property, but only one could accept the semi-rural location with no public transport, and they have yet to find a buyer for theirs.

Sorry to hear you still in your current abode. With the market in its current dire straits its not such a bad place to be. :-)

That's debatable. And what do you suppose the B in RLBS stood for? The RLS part stood for Royal Leamington Spa.

If you think it's "Fine", then you are entitled to think that. Wilkipedia thinks otherwise! tinyurl.com/4efa4

Heh heh. Fine. That's the first time I've heard that one. It was a catchphrase in our department when I was doing IT support, and we certainly didn't mean fine.
Cheers

Upsetting Mr Stick by my presence has been the only thing that has ever tempted me back.

Hello, welcome back! Now, if you can just find No FM2R then the grumpy so and sos with opinions worth hearing will be more.
|
|
Aha, welcome back AE, very nice to see you on here again......where have you been hiding?!
|
Don't welcome him. He'll only get sprauncy and be rude.
Hey, AE, I have got slightly more used to current Seat styling while you have been sulking in Surrey. No doubt you have graduated to Ssangyong aesthetics by now though.
:o}

RF! I had lunch with Adam a couple of weeks ago. He said your real name was Wilbur or something.
|
welcome back AE, it's been kinda quiet without you
|
AE, I thought you'd eloped with oldman/bell boy as you disappeared simultaneously.... ;)
|
Not that I've been missed, I don't suppose, but the last 8months have been spent with me working on our new (old) house, which had the same owners for the last 27yrs, but little maintainence. & this meant no time to play on the PC!!
& to keep it motor related, over last couple weeks, has seen the garage get a new ceiling, electrics &....remote controlled roller door!!
No pics of the garage yet, but if you're even slightly intersted in what you can do to a building, in such a short space of time....
