An auctioneer calling a diesel VW Touran described it as 'no dmf'.
He clearly meant the absence of a dual mass flywheel as a benefit.
Are there any other examples of cars which are worth more if something is not fitted?

- No cigarette lighter (aka "smoker's pack)?

Any excess weight, hint of luxury, metallic paint, central locking, lectric windows, fridge ..Sorry ` Air-Con`
Prefer a van in `Cilice` spec. You don`t seem to be able to get that now in cars.

At the moment, probably anything with V8 engine is worth considerably less than its smaller engined siblings.

After market body kit and/or go faster stripes.

common rail diesel system?

Agree with most of the above - anything non-factory spec and you're on dodgy ground.
I would have added white paint, but someone told me that's now the new black.

Air horns?

Stick on brembo brake covers, drain pipe exhaust, huge alloys with all beads serated along many kerbs shod with rubber bands, full length chrome effect subaru graphics down both sides of those marvellous much abused motors, ditto many other makes too.

Think of accessories from a decade ago or more, which have now been overtaken by technology...
* wired-in car phone
* cassette player / analogue radio (especially with car maker's logo emblazoned on it)
* other largely worthless customised "extras", hastily fitted by flaky local dealership in a desperate attempt to clear the second quarter's stock. I'm thinking especially of mats; mudflaps; pop-up sunroof; go-faster stripes; that cheap-looking black plastic surround to the rear number plate featuring free advertising for the local Arfur Daley; "side rubbing strips", chrome trim round exhaust, lights, etc. and an endless panoply of gratuitous stickers, logos and decals more appropriate to an Airfix model than a 15 grand motor.

>>Air horns?
SWMBO thinks these are a necessity in the area she drives to work.
I have to agree. ;>)

Anyone remember the 1970's Escort "Popular" which had only one sun-visor, basic as possible but ironically cost the same if not more than the preceding year's entry-level "L" model?
Think Vauxhall did similar with the Viva.

If the car has a new parcel shelf and door panels, walk away.
It means the previous items were cut up, with stinking great speakers stuck in there, by the local flash harry boy racer, and the dealer is just trying to cover up the fact.

OP. how would an auctioneer know if a car has a DMF or not? I'd also suggest that a Touran would almost certainly have one.
Direct Maindealer Finance or similar? Auctioneers use lots of abreviations

I'm as certain as I can be I've interpreted the auctioneer's remark correctly.
Misunderstandings can happen, but not in this case, I think.
Anyone wants to check, it was an open sale at Manheim, Middlesbrough, yesterday.
Car was an 05, went through about midday.
Quoting the remark was just a way of getting the thread going, I wasn't looking for a stewards' enquiry about it.

Baked bean tin sized exhaust, make a car almost worthless.
