hi there,
i bought an LPG converted Volvo v40 ('99) in Jan 2007. the dealer assured me the conversion was done properly but the very next day it went POP!
my girlfriend was so keen on the car we decided to just use it on petrol for a while until we could work out the problem, this was / is my first LPG car...
not long after we took it to an LPG specialist in Cardiff who seems / seemed like a genuine guy and i have no reason to dis trust him but in short we spent approx £500 having the front end of the conversion 're done'
it drove OK for a while until the 'backfires' from the air filter started again and on speaking to the mechanic he explained the original job was so badly done, that he'd have to re do the entire car to make it work properly.
NOT an option for a self employed musician!
2 replacement air filters / pipes later it still continues to backfire (FRONTfire?!) and conks out at low revs (always at the lights)...when on petrol it does not do this and drives OK.
i have no idea of how the gas system works and have an average knowledge of car mechanics....its like the gas 'pump' does not produce enough pressure......OR its not igniting correctly.
i'm getting very fed up of the continuing problem and have no / very little more money to throw at the car.
i can post pics or e mail to anyone who may be able to help!
many thanks in advance, si
