Noticed one of these this morning parked up near Asda in Sunderland. Not in a very good place to make much money because it was on an uphill stretch and not far from a roundabout so you would have to really be gunning it to get caught. However, good for them because this is a bit of 30mph dual carriageway in a residential area just where folk cross from Asda with their shopping so it was acting as a safety camera not a revenue collector.
Any way, I digress. After seeing this van I realised how much they look like ambulances and even more so like Autoglass vans. Not a criticism, just an observation.

Might have to "gun" a Panda to get up a hill Chris, but those of us with normal cars ......... ( "wallowing repmobiles" etc. )
Only pulling your leg ! ;-)

I notice the camera vans are lurking around supermarkets a lot these days - namely Tesco in Durham.
The cynic in me would suggest this is where the highest traffic is, therefore with the greatest gains. Especially as the Durham camera site is at the END of the 30mph area which opens into a 60mph open country road. Ideal for catching people who drift above 30 as they are leaving the zone. (and the last 500 yards of the 30 zone are empy of houses/footpaths etc!)

You're right, Shoespy, especially when it's the 4x4, Britain's slowest car from 0-60. That's why I've got no points.
|
Joking aside Chris, I rather like them. If I could get all my kit in one I'd consider it. Many years ago we had a Mk 1 which easily doubled as a van because you could just unclip and remove all the seats except the drivers and use the space. Great wee thing. Felt a lot faster than it actually was. Very willing engine.

You're right about it feeling faster than it really is which is why it's so much fun, especially as I never really have to get anywhere very fast these days.
Push the revs up and it sounds like a mini Ferrari!

Well I think I can beat that.
Coming down the M6 today, near Carlisle, and about 1 mile from J41,the Wigton turnoff, there is a small bridge which crosses over the motorway, and what was sat on top of it?
Yes a camera van.
Now you can't tell me that it was there for safety purposes,as the only reason I can think of,was the extra traffic generated from the hordes of travelling Rangers fans heading south to Manchester, and Cumbria police have hit on a good idea for extra revenue, using the excitement of Rangers fans,as they may creep over the limit a bit,and will have a wonderful present dropping on their doormats in a few weeks time.
It'll certainly be a double sickener if Rangers lose, and if they win,it will take the edge of elation away.

About time the English got some extra revenue from the Scots!
Who is actually paying for all the extra freebies they get north of the border?

The billions in oil revenue that Westminster steals from them in the first place?

>>Who is actually paying for all the extra freebies they get north of the border?
The same people who give extra payments to Northern Ireland and London (both areas get more subsidy than Scotland including the Barnett formula)
I obviously help out by getting parking tickets and speeding penalties
