Do any countries have bilateral agreements with the UK in respect of motoring offences? A poster on another forum is suggesting that Australian authorities will pursue a UK national (in the UK) who has been caught speeding if he does not pay the fine in Australia.

That is a myth that an increasing number of people seem to believe. Even within the EU the states powers stop at it's borders - though that may change in future.

But it may well come in the fullness of time, if not sooner.

No, till now there is no such agreements but there are discussions going on implementing the same!
Rest assured, UK govt. won't deport you to Australia for speeding fine :)

Though if you drive a 4x4 they might be tempted...;-)

Sounds like a cheap way of getting to Oz!

I was thinking that - "Oh please don't deport me to Australia - oh OK then "

I am not aware of any bilateral agreements with the UK for traffic offences except, possibly, Ireland. There are agreements between Austria, Switzerland and Germany though, as some of my colleagues here have found to their cost!
If, however, you are in a rental car in any country and get caught by a speed/ traffic light/ tailgating camera or get a parking ticket, the rental car company will pay the resulting fine on your behalf and then bill you via your credit card, irrelevant of your nationality.
