HJ's Life 7-seater Test - Brit_in_Germany
This van is one on the list for the Avensis Verso replacement in a couple of years. HJ's test seems to be the Caddy Maxi Life rather than the Caddy Life. Perhaps VW are using different labelling to that in Germany. Also, there is a petrol variant in Germany which undercuts the basic diesel by ?2000 or so.

I rented a normal 5 seater Caddy while on holiday recently in Spain. There is a trim level of the 5 seater called 'Life' (saw several of those while on hols).
It's a reasonable car, sits in the Berlingo, Kangoo segment of the market. The sliding door is very useful and there's loads of boot space. I thought that the Caddy lacked the cubby holes and other nice storage touches that seem to be present in the Berlingo for example, although that may have been because I had the bottom of the range model.
My wife hated how it looked, because it's a van with windows, while I revelled in its inate practicality and lack of pretence.
I currently drive a 2003 diesel Octavia or a 2002 PD engined Ibiza, so driving a more modern VW diesel was interesting. It was perfectly competent but to a certain extent I was bored by the linear power delivery and lack of the shove in the back as the turbo kicked in which you get in Octavia and Ibiza.

Here's a picture of it:

Side on it does look like a slightly low-rent hearse, but handsome is as handsome does.

I don't know if they're available in black, if they are I doubt it's the most popular colour.

They are available in black (here in Ireland, at least) and it costs more than other shades of metallic paint too!
