It IS because they are bone idle - drives me mad - OK I'm mildly annoyed- when every time (morning and evening) I drive through our village I have to queue to avoid cars parked on double yellow so they can nip into the paper shop and the bakery (butties are good though) while on opposite side are those who occupy the other double yellows to use the cash machine - result is totally jammed village. Even worse are those who find the double yellows fully occupied and therefore use the dropped kerbs of the pedestrian crossing as a convenient parking space. The irony is that there are 3 free carparks behind the shops which, even if you park at the far end of the park, mean a 50 metre walk to shop/cashpoint etc.
At night it doesn't happen??? You must be kidding - the pizza place is next to ped crossing and fish and chip shop and Indian and chinese takeaways a few yards away - it's even worse!
Crush them (lazy gits not the cars!)

Good for the Police - parking like they do is breaking the law so the Police are doing their job - perhaps if those mums and dads parked responsibly (or walked!!) the Police would have more time to tackle other crime..... and yes, I feel they have got their priorites right - if a child was killed or injured because of having to walk in the road because of selfish s*ds like them there would be hell to pay...

The answer is obvious, to me! It is doesn't take much manpower to operate, they can be seen to be doing something, there is a guaranteed clear up rate (probably 100%) and it is a huge help towards the force meeting their performance indicators, formerly known as 'targets'. I add that it is obvious that the police are doing what they are being being told to by their managers; they would probably rather be working on the sort of crime that bothers us but they aren't tasked with that!

PIs for this sort of activity probably only exist in the mind of hacks working for a brace of certain tabloid papers.

The reason for doing it probably far more mundane like the er...locals asked for it to happen.

"clear ups" only apply to recordable crime which even under the current potty regime doesn't apply to obstruction offences.

A classic case of damned if they do and damned if they don't.

A Google stick waved at the town actually shows this to be the case !

I agree with the police cracking down on inconsiderate parking. On some days, friends of ours can't drive their car out because of school run vehicles parked across the end of their drive. In any case, it would do the kids good to walk to school. You didn't get the childhood obesity in my day like you get now.
