Year???? 1.3 - battery failures. - killie

Hi
Friend of mine has been having some Problems with her Car. Hyundia Accent 1.3
This Started early last year when the Engine Management Light came on.
Car was running a bit erratically had it diagnosed as an Exhaust Problem garage fixed it light went out for a Couple of days came back on.
Car was running but not great on acceleration. Start of this year Car went in for an MOT & Service came back running worse than ever. Then the Battery Died.
This is where it gets interesting. We replaced the Battery which was about 3 years old at that time with a New one from Halfords. Car was OK for about 2 Days then started having real problems sounded like it was running on only 3 Cylindes or less.
Had it taken to the Garage they diagnosed the Coil Pack new one fitted. Car running fine
next day battery flat as a Pancake. Jump satrted it ran for about three hundred yards started to lose Power Rev Counter not working nor the indicators or clock eventually conked out. Put a Spare battery on everything fine. Drove it this morning no problem
this afternoon DEAD..
So the question waht is killing the Batteries ?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

First step is to find out if the alternator is actually charging (or even over charging!)

Thanks for the Tip
was thinking maybe an Earthing Problem. But the Alternater sounds like a good place to Start. What's worrying is the Speed at which the batterys going from Full to Empty almost overnight. Which is why I'm thinking the Earthing Strap.

If the battery isnt getting charged, so the engine is running off the battery it wont last long at all.

Could be othre problems but that needs checking 1st
