Can anyone recommend someone who can replace the convector unit on a 1997R Golf and regas in the Bristol/Swindon area? Thanks for your help.....

Do you mean a condenser? or compressor?
They didn't come with factory a/c, so it must have been fitted as an aftermarket kit. Hope it was a well known make of kit, otherwise you can spend ages trying to find a replacement.

I thought the last of the Highline Limited editions had aircon, seen a few advertised.

My 1996 Golf VR6 has aircon fitted as an optional extra at the time it was purchased. The operating instructions are in the Owners Manual.
My local VW dealer can re-gas the system at a reasonable price don't know about compressor/condenser though.
