Watched this last night. I was already going to the 3rd lane when overtaking HGV's anyway (foreign or not) after seeing a car get side swiped some years ago by an HGV.
This is even more reason to do so.

Watched it, but I found that it just went over the same old stuff that other tv programmes (eg traffic cops, BBC) have already done to death.

Agree with DD.
Not condoning the action of the foreign trucks. Bt if you want to keep importing cheap foreign stuff then it needs to be transported etc. If its cheap its because they will cut corners. The corners being our safety!

What about UK HGVs operating overseas. I assume that the blind spots foreign HGVs suffer from when driving on UK roads will be exactly the same as our boys suffer from when driving abroad. But of course our boys would never side swipe....

i was side swiped by a german registered hgv in feb , he pulled in to the 3rd lane , i was in his blind spot him being left hand drive and he spun me 90 deg to the left then t-boned me along the motorway for what seemed like an eternity , my partner who was with me had to climb out of my side because of the damage caused to my car, i still feel weak at the knees when i think what could of happened , if he had gone over the top of us we would have been killed, i wrote to their insurance company to make a claim for damages but i havn't heard anything from them, unfortunately i dont have legal cover so i dont know if i will here from them ...fingers crossed

KEEP AWAY FROM LORRIES
|
The problem's not helped by people just driving down the middle lane. Each overtake should be a manouevre with a plan - which in the case of an HGV includes not being alongside it for a long period. If there's no space in front of the HGV for your vehicle the overtake shouldn't start.
If I drive on a motorway and need to overtake a line of HGVs, each is a separate manouevre.

Followed a convoy of non-UK trucks for over an hour today on Welsh twisty roads. Too closely bunched to allow a safe overtake....well in my car anyway......needs the elastic fully wound to contemplate anything as rash as taking three in one go. Had a look a few times but decided to be patient for a number of reasons.....
1/ they were all LHD which scares me
2/ they were tight up against one another
3/ my car when fully laden is fairly slow
4/ scameras everywhere so couldn't risk "slingshot" overtake.
upshot......late again but alive !
PS - no sign of uniformed persons lurking in any form of farm transport with a camera, much to my disappointment. ;-)
