hi again
so i should not use supermarket fuel only BP premium diesel

Sorry about delay in coming back. Would not even recommend supermarket fuel in your neighbour's lawnmower! Just keep to mainstream fuel, eg Shell/BP etc.

You mean the stuff that comes from the same oil terminals as the supermarket petrol?

This is all so contencious, what a minefield!! I want to make sure that my car and its parts are giving me optimum performance, at the same time i dont want to put in fancy fuels and additives if it going to be pointless? so would i be safe in assuming that i should stick to normal BP/Shell diesal!!

I had a new Nissan first serviced ( @ under 5000 miles) at a Nissan dealer - after the service it ran like an old nail - I have concluded they put deisel additive in a petrol car but can't prove it - they charged me £10 for it and at that mileage it was theft even if the right stuff had gone in - they said Nissan insists this stuff is put in - lesson avoid Nissan dealers and fuel additives.

I'd stick to a named brand such as BP or Shell. Try using BP Ultimate as it's the top fuel supplied by BP.

For what it's worth, in 5 1/2 years and 73,000 miles, my S60 D5 has never really noticed when I've altered, for whatever reason, its regular diet of Shell Extra. Performance, noise, smoke (none - ever) and fuel economy are all indistinguishable, whatever's in the tank. It's had a couple of fills of premium diesel by Shell or BP, which again made no difference; it's had French supermarket Gazole with no ill effects either.
It's always performed when required; its fuel consumption has always been predictable from the way I've been driving it and the traffic it's been driven in; and it's sailed through all its MoT emissions tests. I admit it's never occurred to me to try, but I can't imagine that mixing any kind of additive into the fuel will do anything but cost you more money.
