Mileage to Car age trade off - Philflies
Hello,

It's probably an eternally argued point but I'd like some quick opinions on this dilema

Seat Ibiza 1.2sx 2004 17,000miles
OR
Seat Ibiza 1.2sx 2006 34,000miles

So the question is:

Old Car Low Mileage OR young car high mileage?

Which is the better trade off Miles or Years.

Regards to all you honest-johners

Will the 06 car have the balance of its maker's warranty left ?
Mileage to Car age trade off - Philflies
Yes there's the manf. warranty remaining on the new car and the dealership is offering a years warranty on the old one so there's not much to decide there.

For 500 notes it would be down to colours and options then.

Identical spec.

Different colours.

There's really not much to choose between them apart from the mileage/age thing.
It just depends on which you think is more significant.

It's then down to your annual mileage, if its below average go for the 06 if its above go for the 04. It'll balance out in the end. Only other issues are MoT next year or the year after and/or vanity, and possibly the most basic of human things the "feel" of the car.

Old Car Low Mileage OR young car high mileage?

Old car, low mileage - does it work properly? Not many miles/year, has it been looked after properly, if it does in fact work properly?

Young car, high mileage - 34,000 mils is not "high mileage". It certainly does work properly, and has probably been looked after well (and "looked after itself") in that time.

I would most certainly, given the small price difference, go for the 2006 one. No doubt at all.

I agree with FT.

34k in two years suggests a car hasn't spent its life doing short stop/start journeys. 17k in 4 yrs suggests it has.

Most engine wear occurs immediately after startup.
