Warranty and the law - Martin Devon
What is the law regarding dealers and warranties? A dealer has said that he will NOT warranty anything under a grand. I understand his position, but what actually is the law

Sale of goods act etc. Anyone?

See HJ's FAQ no.5 www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/faq.htm?id=43

Note that for cars under £5000, if you go to small claims court and then "judgements" do not become "case law". See the final part of the FAQ no.5
.... Where a carbuyer has paid a retail price for a relatively new car for over £5,000 that suffered severe problems within 6 months and the dealer tries to wriggle out of his responsibility by calling it a "trade sale", then lawanswers.co.uk is prepared to take on the case in order to set a case precedent

p.s. the link given by HJ to the DTI no longer works because the DTI is no longer the "DTI" but is now the "BERR". [ cue more taxpayers money wasted on new logos, changing web sites and printing new headed paper and documents and new brass-plates on the doors etc. )
The correct link is www.berr.gov.uk/files/file25486.pdf " A traders guide: the law relating to the supply of goods and services (505KB)
